“Seb is on his way, I better get inside.” I sighed.
Ryder’s brows were furrowed when I looked up at him, but he turned away right after. “Yeah, I guess I should get going.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” I said, opening the door and stepping out of the car.
“See you tomorrow,” he repeated, taking the car out of park and sparing me a quick glance before I shut the door and he sped off.
Chapter Fifteen
“So how did your project go today?” Seb asked as we were sitting in my room.
“It was fine, we almost finished one banner,” I said, “One down, six to go.”
He looked up at me and smiled, “You’re cute.”
I grinned, he’s in a good mood today. “Thanks,” I blushed a little.
He looked at me and nodded, “You’re welcome, babe.” He looked back down at his phone and I chewed on my lip. If he’s in such a good mood, I need to tell him that I can’t hang out any after school tomorrow. Maybe he’ll take it better when he’s not already angry.
I looked on my calendar that is linked to my parents’ and saw that they both have to work late tomorrow. Good, then if he comes by, they won’t be here for him to question.
“So, uhm, Seb, I forgot to tell you earlier, but my mom called while I was with Ryder,” I started, trying to keep my voice even and leave no trace to show I am lying.
“Okay?” He furrowed his brows and shook his head a little, silently saying, “Why are you telling me this?”
“Well I guess my dad is working late tomorrow, and so she thought she and I could go see my grandparents after school. So, I’m going to drive myself to school tomorrow, and then come home after and go there with my mom.” I look up at him and pray my face doesn’t show even a smidge of nervousness on it.
“Why can’t I drive you before practice?” He asked.
“Because I don’t want you to get in trouble. Remember last time you were late for practice? Coach threatened to make Aaron captain.”
He looked at me with no emotion for a moment, as if trying to gauge my body language to try and see if I am lying. Finally his features relaxed and his eyes softened. “You’re right,” he sighed, “I guess that’s okay. Don’t you need to work with him tomorrow though? You told me you needed to work with him every day.”
“I know, and I really do, but he insisted that I go with mom tomorrow. He heard her say how I hadn’t seen my grandparents in so long, so he wanted me to go and visit with them.”
“Okay. But you know what I said about last time you went there.” He gave me a look and I nodded.
Last time, grandma noticed a bruise on my wrist that I hadn’t covered up with make up very well and I had a very hard time coming up with a believable story for her.
